ip number one – you’ve got to know the basics about diamonds. There are the four C’s and what we call the shape. These five elements are the most important variables that determine the value of the diamond ring you’re about to buy, so let’s look at them together.

Tip number two – the shape. Well, the shape is basically the way the diamond looks when you look at it from the top. If you want to save money, you might want to buy a diamond that has a shape called the marquise or the pear.

Why? Because these two shapes make your diamond look bigger than if you use one of the other shapes. Also, if you have short fingers and you want them to look longer, buy an oval shape.

Now the four C’s; tip number three – the first C is the cut. This is really, really simple. The better the cut, the more sparkle your diamond will have. So if you want to save money, this is not where you want to be cheap. You can save money by having your diamond being lower on the other C’s, but the cut is something you want to invest money in.

So the next tip is the clarity. The clarity simply means: are there a lot of imperfections in your diamond?

This is where you can save money. Why? Well first of all, most of the imperfections cannot be seen by the naked eye. So you can have a diamond, which is less graded on the clarity so you pay less money, but it doesn’t change anything because you can’t see the imperfections with the naked eye. Another thing you can do is buy a diamond that has small inclusions, but the inclusions are at the bottom of the diamond so you can’t see them because they are between the diamond and the setting.

The next tip is the color. To put it simply, if a diamond is “yellowish,” it will have less value than if it is white. Another thing you want to avoid buying is a colored diamond. Now, naturally colored diamonds are really, really expensive and they are really, really rare. So most of the colored diamonds you will find are cheap, low quality diamonds that have been artificially colored. The problem with that is first, the color will wear off after a while, and the second thing is these are like I said, low quality diamonds. So you want to stay away from artificially colored diamonds.

The next tip is the carat. Now, the carat is basically the weight of the diamond. To give you an idea, one carat equals about 200 milligrams. You can do two things with that; first, not get scammed and the second thing is save money.

Make sure that you don’t fall for the total carat weight scam. This is where you buy, for example, a four carat diamond ring and you think wow this is a huge diamond it’s four carats, where in fact the diamond itself is only one carat. Basically the four carats is the sum of the diamond, and the setting, and the band.

The way to save money is to buy a diamond that is one point lower than the point itself. So for example, instead of buying a two carat diamond ring, you can buy a 1.90 carat diamond ring. Since we’re talking about a three stone diamond ring, instead of buying three stones of one carat, you can buy three stones of .90 carats. You won’t really see a difference, but you’re going to save a lot of money that way.

The next tip is the price of the diamond. See, the whole thing about diamonds being rare and really expensive is basically a marketing scheme. Americans and people all over the world have been brainwashed for the last century by the diamond industry.

Diamonds are not rare; it’s basically a monopoly that controls the offer and the demand to artificially increase prices. So don’t fall for the scam of investing thousands and thousands of dollars into a diamond. Basically, invest only the amount you feel like investing.
